The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will deploy 800 tourist police officers starting in April to enhance safety in key Philippine destinations.
Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the initiative, approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., will be coordinated with the Department of Tourism.
The officers will patrol high-traffic tourist areas on motorcycles to deter crime, ensure faster emergency response, and promote a safe environment for visitors and local businesses.
Initial rollout sites include Bonifacio Global City, Poblacion, Boracay, Siargao, Cebu, Bohol, and Puerto Princesa, while tourist police will also help promote the nationwide 911 emergency hotline.
Remulla emphasized that improving security in tourism areas benefits the middle class and strengthens the country’s economic growth.
