The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is actively pursuing partnerships with investors and ICT firms from Finland and Sweden to enhance the Philippines’ information and communications technology (ICT) sector.
In a recent meeting between Philippine Ambassador to Sweden Maria Lumen Banzon Isleta, DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, and DICT Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, potential collaborations in e-governance, financial technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity were explored.
Isleta highlighted Sweden’s advancements in digitalization, upskilling for ICT workers, and the implementation of digital ID and e-visa systems.
Meanwhile, Uy provided updates on the Philippines’ digitalization efforts, including expanding the ICT Academy, focusing on cybersecurity and digital connectivity, and rolling out the National ID and e-visa system.
Discussions also revolved around possible collaboration with the European Union on secure data transmission via submarine cables.
The meeting, held at the DICT Central Office in Quezon City, underscores the mutual interest in leveraging technological advancements for the benefit of both nations.
