President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that a new Secretary of Education would be named by the end of the week following Vice President Sara Duterte’s resignation, effective July 19.
Marcos emphasized the importance of the Department of Education, describing it as arguably the most vital department due to its role in the country.
He noted that Duterte did not provide specific reasons for her resignation and that her decision should not disrupt the department’s ongoing work.
The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines respected Duterte’s decision and expressed gratitude for her collaboration during her tenure.
The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition urged Marcos to appoint an experienced educator rather than a politician to ensure effective management of the department.
