DEPED BACKS THREE-TERM SCHOOL CALENDAR REFORM

The Department of Education (DepEd) has expressed support for the Cabinet-level endorsement of a three-term school calendar set to begin next school year.

The reform, approved by the Department of Economy, Planning and Development and endorsed by the Social Development Committee-Cabinet Level, aims to improve teaching quality and address inefficiencies in the current system.

DepEd said the new structure will include a five-day “Opening Block” for assessments, followed by a 60-day “Instructional Block” for uninterrupted learning.

The shift from four quarters to three terms is expected to streamline grading cycles and reduce teachers’ administrative workload.

The department added that the reform is part of a broader effort to boost learning outcomes through initiatives such as classroom construction, nutrition programs, and improved access to learning materials.
