The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have joined forces to strengthen vaccine regulation and availability for livestock and poultry, aiming to curb the spread of diseases like African swine fever (ASF) and avian flu.
Through enhanced inter-agency coordination, the two agencies seek to ensure the safe and effective rollout of veterinary vaccines to support the farm sector.
The DA’s Bureau of Animal Industry will handle vaccine testing and evaluation, while the FDA will oversee regulatory compliance and post-marketing monitoring.
Although no ASF or bird flu vaccines are currently approved for commercial use, the DA is conducting controlled ASF vaccine trials, with nearly 40,000 pigs inoculated and 86 reported deaths.
The partnership is expected to stabilize supply and prices of key commodities and strengthen the livestock industry’s resilience.
