Senator Cynthia Villar remains firmly opposed to divorce despite support from several female colleagues in the Senate.
Pro-divorce senators, including Risa Hontiveros, Grace Poe, Pia Cayetano, Imee Marcos, and Loren Legarda, have backed the proposed “Dissolution of Marriage Act,” which addresses issues such as violence in abusive relationships.
Villar aligns with conservative male senators, including Senate President Francis Escudero and Senate Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, in opposing the measure.
Despite the House of Representatives approving its version of the bill, Villar believes its passage in the Senate is unlikely.
She bases her stance on her personal experience of a happy marriage and family life.
