Several Luzon local governments have tightened restrictions on live hogs and pork products following reported African swine fever (ASF) cases in parts of Kalinga and Pangasinan.
In Tabuk City, 21 barangays have reported ASF cases affecting 1,451 hogs worth an estimated PHP21.765 million, prompting a recommendation for a state of calamity.
The city task force also proposed a 30-day total ban on incoming live hogs and pork by-products to prevent further spread of the virus.
Aguilar and Bayambang in Pangasinan have imposed restrictions after ASF cases were detected, while other affected areas include Alaminos City, Malasiqui and Mapandan.
Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, has separately banned the entry of live hogs and established checkpoints as a preventive measure, despite the province remaining ASF-free.
