Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia assured the public of the thorough vetting process before awarding the contract for the automated election system (AES) to South Korean firm Miru Systems Company Limited.
Garcia cited certifications obtained from the United Nations and other countries where Miru had previously provided services, attesting to successful elections.
The P17.99-billion contract, signed on Monday, will procure around 110,000 machines and peripherals for the 2025 national and local elections.
Despite concerns raised by lawmakers and election watchdogs, Garcia emphasized that Miru had accepted all provisions outlined by the Comelec.
Miru Systems, joined by other companies, had been initially declared ineligible but later deemed eligible after complying with legal and financial requirements.
The Comelec maintains confidence in Miru’s ability to meet the specifications outlined in the terms of reference.
