President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. did not want Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong to resign as special adviser to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), Malacañang clarified.
Palace spokesperson Claire Castro said the President only ordered a review of Magalong’s dual role to ensure it did not violate laws on elected officials holding another public office.
Magalong stepped down 13 days after his appointment amid scrutiny over questionable Baguio projects linked to a contractor couple, though he denied corruption and ordered audits.
The mayor later claimed he was “eased out” for uncovering a flood control scandal, but Castro denied any intention to undermine his reputation.
Marcos appointed retired PNP chief Rodolfo Azurin as Magalong’s replacement in the ICI.
