Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan urged the Philippines and China to maintain the maritime status quo and keep a safe distance to avoid confrontation, while resolving disputes through dialogue and restraint.
Speaking at the 2nd Diliman Dialogues in Quezon City on Oct. 15, he encouraged both countries to pursue cooperation in areas such as scientific research, trade, investment, and environmental protection.
Jing also called for continued political dialogue and more people-to-people exchanges to reduce misunderstandings and prevent tensions from escalating.
He said uncertainty in bilateral relations has discouraged some Chinese companies from investing in the Philippines despite opportunities in technology, agriculture, and energy.
The envoy also urged the Philippines to maintain balanced relations with both China and the United States, prioritizing the interests of Filipinos.
