The Chinese embassy challenged Philippine lawmakers to declare Ambassador Jing Quan persona non grata, telling them to “just do it” instead of bluffing.
Senators JV Ejercito and Francis Pangilinan criticized Jing’s remarks and called for his removal following his statement that China could easily defeat the Philippines in a conflict.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. described the ambassador’s remarks as threatening and plans to summon him for clarification.
Meanwhile, Malacañang stressed the importance of maintaining diplomatic relations with China while protecting Philippine sovereignty and interests in the West Philippine Sea.
China’s Defense Ministry also criticized Philippine Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. over his stance against Beijing.
