Security concerns have escalated as China’s Coast Guard vessel, CCG 5901, known as the “Monster” ship, entered waters 60 nautical miles off Zambales, within the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has been monitoring the vessel for two weeks, calling its presence unauthorized and violating international maritime law.
Despite repeated challenges from the PCG, the Chinese ship has not complied, and its presence adds to a growing trend of Chinese activity in the South China Sea.
The Philippines has lodged formal protests against these incursions, with the National Security Council condemning the deployment as an attempt to intimidate local fishermen and challenge Philippine sovereignty.
China defended its actions, claiming they were lawful, while the Philippines reaffirmed its commitment to protecting maritime rights through legal and diplomatic means.
