House lawmaker Rep. Robert Ace Barbers criticized China’s “expansionist” actions in the West Philippine Sea, accusing Beijing of demanding respect for its claims while disregarding the Philippines’ sovereignty and international rulings.
Barbers highlighted China’s continued rejection of the 2016 UNCLOS arbitral decision, which invalidated Beijing’s nine-dash line claims.
He condemned China’s bullying tactics, including maritime aggression and interference with Philippine policies, following President Marcos’ signing of two maritime laws strengthening the country’s maritime rights.
Barbers reiterated the Philippines’ resolve to uphold its sovereignty within its 200-mile exclusive economic zone, despite China’s objections.
President Marcos also affirmed the country’s firm stance on sovereignty and the rule of law in the disputed waters.
