Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano urged Filipinos to be “pro-Philippines” amid rising tensions between Manila and Beijing over Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan’s remarks about China’s military strength.
He stressed that the country should prioritize national interests rather than side with or oppose China or the United States.
Cayetano called for protecting Philippine sovereignty and sovereign rights while seeking diplomatic solutions to the dispute.
He said tensions should be managed through dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further problems that could affect ordinary Filipinos.
He added that although close ties with China may be difficult in the short term, the Philippines should work toward managing the dispute better.
