Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano called for a snap election involving the president, vice president, Senate, and Congress, urging all incumbents to step down and be barred from running for one election cycle.
He proposed growing public distrust in government officials, citing widespread allegations of corruption, particularly linked to flood-control project anomalies.
Cayetano emphasized that stepping aside should not be feared if officials truly serve the people, calling for radical honesty and a clean slate for the nation.
His remarks come as several key officials, including former Senate President Chiz Escudero, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, have resigned amid the ongoing scandal.
Cayetano stressed that the government bureaucracy would continue to function while the snap election would restore trust and integrity in public service.
