The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will collaborate with the Office of the Ombudsman following the suspension of Bohol Gov.
Aris Aumentado and 68 other officials for their involvement in the construction of Captain’s Peak Resort at the foot of the protected Chocolate Hills.
DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga emphasized the importance of accountability and integrity in environmental governance.
The ombudsman’s investigation charged the officials with grave misconduct and gross neglect of duty regarding the resort’s development in a declared protected area.
The suspension also includes several mayors and regional officials from various departments. The Chocolate Hills Natural Monument is a protected area and part of Bohol Island, a UNESCO Global Geopark.
