More than 10,000 foreign workers linked to Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) have left the country following President Marcos Jr.’s directive to ban internet gaming operations by the end of December. Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado stated that 21,757 POGO workers have downgraded their work visas, with more expected to depart before the deadline. The ban aims to eliminate crimes tied to illegal gaming operations, including human trafficking and kidnapping. Affected workers are given 59 days to remain on temporary visitor visas while they settle their affairs. The remaining 20,000 foreign workers face deportation proceedings if they fail to comply.
