Senator Paolo Aquino IV urged the government to act immediately to protect the Philippines’ food security amid rising fuel costs and inflation.
He stressed that higher fuel prices threaten not just transportation but also farmers, fisherfolk, and small vendors who supply the nation’s food.
Aquino called for measures to ensure stable and affordable food, warning against waiting until families face difficult choices.
He criticized delays in implementing Republic Act No. 12316, which allows the President to suspend or reduce excise taxes on petroleum products.
The senator also renewed his push to suspend the VAT on fuel to provide immediate relief to Filipinos affected by soaring oil prices.
