BACOLOD URGES BARANGAYS TO SCALE DOWN FIESTAS DUE TO COSTS

Negros Oriental and Bacolod City are implementing austerity measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices and ongoing global energy disruptions affecting local economies and government operations.

Governor Manuel Sagarbarria issued Executive Order 22, Series of 2026, restricting official travel, nonessential activities, and vehicle use within the provincial government to promote energy conservation.

The order allows exemptions only for essential services such as health, disaster response, peace and order, and emergency operations, while requiring strict approval for travel outside the province.

In Bacolod City, the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution urging barangays to scale down or defer fiesta celebrations and redirect funds toward basic services and assistance programs.

Officials said the combined measures aim to prioritize essential public services, support vulnerable sectors, and reduce financial strain amid the continuing fuel crisis.
