The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed that Chinese maritime forces obstructed and delayed a medical evacuation for a sick soldier from the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal last Sunday.
The PCG deployed two patrol vessels to assist, facing obstructing maneuvers by Chinese vessels but successfully completing the transfer.
Photos showed the sick personnel being escorted by PCG officers amidst the tense standoff. Despite the Chinese blockade, the PCG managed to return safely, with the soldier now in stable condition.
PCG spokesman Commodore Jay Tarriela criticized China’s actions and commended the bravery and dedication of the PCG and AFP in their mission.
