ARREST MADE: EXPELLED LAWMAKER TEVES CAPTURED IN TIMOR LESTE

Former Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr., who was expelled from the House of Representatives, has been apprehended in Timor Leste.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed that Teves Jr., designated as a “terrorist,” was arrested while playing golf in Dili, Timor Leste, around 4 p.m. The arrest is linked to multiple murder charges in connection with the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and five others in March 2023.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla emphasized the significance of international cooperation in capturing Teves, stating that no terrorist can escape justice. Teves is currently in custody of Timor Leste Police, with plans for extradition to the Philippines underway.

The DOJ, along with law enforcement agencies and diplomatic channels, is facilitating the extradition process. Degamo’s wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, expressed relief over Teves Jr.’s capture, noting that the alleged mastermind of her husband’s murder is finally in police custody.

The Interpol had issued a “red notice” against Teves Jr. in February, and the Manila Regional Trial Court had ordered the cancellation of his passport. Teves Jr. was expelled from the House of Representatives in August 2023 due to prolonged absence from duty and allegations of involvement in Degamo’s assassination.
