Education Secretary Sonny Angara has ordered a nationwide, multi-agency effort to strengthen school safety following the shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City.
Acting on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive, the Department of Education is coordinating with the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, and Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center to improve campus security and threat monitoring.
Immediate measures include nationwide school safety audits, increased police presence, the purchase of handheld metal detectors, and repairs to school perimeter fences.
DepEd is also providing psychological support to affected students and teachers while training school personnel to identify early warning signs of violence and bullying.
The agency urged local school boards to use the Special Education Fund to enhance school safety and security measures further.
