The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Education (DepEd) signed an agreement allowing barangay tanods to help patrol public and private schools to strengthen student safety.
The agreement also covers academic institutions and DepEd-supervised community learning centers, with local governments, school officials, and law enforcement agencies coordinating security efforts.
Barangay tanods may conduct authorized inspections of bags, personal belongings, and vehicles at designated school entrances using approved methods.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said protecting students and teachers requires collective action, while DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara welcomed the mobilization of barangays to improve school security.
The partnership also includes technical assistance, policy guidance, and emergency response training to help prevent and address school violence.
