The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is considering legal action against retired army general Johnny Lacsamana Macanas over a YouTube video alleging military leaders plotted to destabilize President Marcos.
Macanas, in a since-edited video titled “Dumarami ang tao convincing PBBM to do the right thing?”, claimed both the AFP and PNP chiefs withdrew support for Marcos. The video, featuring the leaders’ photos, has garnered over 100,000 views.
PNP chief Benjamin Acorda Jr. filed a complaint against Macanas for alleged disinformation, criticizing those aiming to gain fame through such tactics. Macanas responded, expressing alarm but claiming it’s a risk he accepts as a political vlogger. He likened his situation to “David and Goliath,” seeking prayers and financial support from viewers.
While seeking to distance itself from Macanas’ claims, the AFP hasn’t ruled out legal action. This developing story highlights ongoing political tensions in the Philippines and the potential impact of online misinformation.
