The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced significant strides in its counter-insurgency operations, highlighting the weakening of New People’s Army (NPA) structures and neutralization of key leaders. While not claiming “zero active fronts,” they emphasized a substantial reduction in rebel activity.
Trinidad cited successes like the capture or neutralization of leaders like Dionisio Macabalo and Farahudin Pumbaya Pangalian, alongside a reduction in active fronts and the seizure of numerous firearms. He stressed the importance of collaboration with communities and local authorities in these achievements.
With the internal security landscape evolving, the AFP is now dedicating greater resources to external defense, particularly maritime security in the West Philippine Sea. Increased patrols and awareness campaigns aim to safeguard national interests and territorial integrity.
The public’s support for these efforts is reflected in a recent survey by OCTA Research, which showed an approval rating of over 85% for the AFP. This trust underscores the military’s vital role in maintaining peace and stability.
