House Assistant Majority Leader Zia Alonto Adiong has dismissed claims by Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp that the ongoing impeachment proceedings are a “kangaroo court,” saying the allegations make no sense.
Adiong noted that the House Committee on Justice is following Supreme Court rulings on impeachment, ensuring due process for the respondent, unlike the fast-tracked 2025 complaint that Duterte’s camp had previously praised.
The 2025 impeachment complaint was declared unconstitutional by the SC due to technicalities, prompting the House to adopt a more methodical committee-led process this year.
Adiong emphasized that hearings are being conducted to comply with the SC’s directives on informing and observing the rights of the respondent.
He criticized Duterte’s camp for contradicting themselves by questioning the very procedures they had earlier advocated for, underscoring that the House is strictly following legal and constitutional mandates.
