The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has accredited 41 new party-list groups for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, a significant decrease from the nearly 70 accredited for the 2022 elections.
Comelec Chair George Garcia emphasized that the aim is not to reduce the number of party lists but to ensure that they truly represent marginalized and under-represented groups.
The commission rejected applications from 142 other organizations due to various issues, including missing by-laws and dubious documentation.
Garcia noted that further additions to the accredited list may occur, highlighting the thorough scrutiny of applications.
Additionally, Comelec is set to install servers at three undisclosed locations to ensure transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.
