At least 100 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from San Carlos City, Pangasinan were hospitalized in Olongapo City on Tuesday due to suspected food poisoning.
The officials, attending a gender sensitivity seminar at Traveller’s Hotel in Subic Bay Freeport Zone, experienced stomach pain, diarrhea, and vomiting after consuming lunch that included menudo, fried chicken, and chop suey.
San Carlos City Mayor Julier Resuello, who also suffered from food poisoning, assured that he would remain with the affected youth leaders until they were safely transported home.
Many officials were discharged by Tuesday night, and a similar seminar for a second batch of SK officials has been postponed.
The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) is investigating the incident, and Resuello expressed gratitude for the support from local officials and organizations.
