Renowned American YouTuber, Jimmy Donaldson, widely known as MrBeast, has successfully built 100 wells across Africa.
In his latest YouTube video, Donaldson shared that these new wells will provide clean drinking water for approximately half a million people in Cameroon, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
Furthermore, he donated essential supplies including furniture, computers, projectors, and soccer balls to various schools.
However, Donaldson’s actions were met with contrasting opinions.
Aspiring Kenyan politician, Francis Gaitho, expressed criticism on his X account, accusing the content creator of perpetuating stereotypes of Africa as dependent on handouts and philanthropic intervention.
On the other hand, Kenyan activist, Boniface Mwangi, defended Donaldson’s initiative. Mwangi shed light on the prevailing issues within Kenya, stating, “We are a shameful, horrible country.”
He pointed out the irony of the government’s ability to allocate funds for extravagant car grants for newly elected officials while neglecting the provision of essential resources such as boreholes for the people. Mwangi highlighted the pressing need for assistance in the country.
Despite the expected backlash, Donaldson remains resolute. In a statement on his X account, he declared, “I already know I’m gonna get canceled because I uploaded a video helping people, and to be 100% clear, I don’t care. I’m always going to use my channel to help people and try to inspire my audience to do the same.”
