A 15-year-old minor from Taguig was stabbed and killed during the chaotic Mendiola anti-corruption rally on September 21, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso confirmed.
The suspect, 52-year-old watch repairman Richard Francisco, surrendered to authorities after being identified by CCTV footage.
Francisco claimed he acted in self-defense after protesters damaged his motorcycle and threatened his repair shop.
The mayor clarified that no police officers were involved in the stabbing, calling it an incident of a citizen protecting his property during the unrest.
Over 200 people, including around 90 minors, were arrested during the protests, and inquest proceedings are ongoing.
