Vice President Sara Duterte urged lawmakers in the House of Representatives to refrain from using witnesses with “no credibility” and “questionable goals” following accusations made by former DepEd Undersecretary Gloria Jumamil Mercado.
Mercado claimed she was pressured to resign after raising concerns about the Department of Education’s computerization program, which Duterte dismissed as politically motivated.
Duterte characterized Mercado as a “disgruntled” former employee, alleging misconduct, including soliciting funds from a private company and attempting to defame other officials.
She cautioned Congress that highlighting unreliable witnesses could harm the lives of ordinary DepEd employees and their families.
In response, Mercado denied Duterte’s allegations and asserted that there were no financial improprieties involved in her departure.
