Two separate programs will be held along EDSA on Tuesday to mark the 40th anniversary of the People Power Revolution, with progressive groups under the EDSA40 alliance gathering near the EDSA Shrine and the Trillion Peso March Movement (TPMM) holding a separate event at the EDSA People Power Monument.
Leaders from both sides said attempts to stage a unified rally failed due to disagreements, including concerns over alleged calls for unconstitutional or violent actions, which TPMM organizers denied.
The Quezon City government clarified that no group was barred based on beliefs, saying permit requests for EDSA-Ortigas were referred to the proper authorities and that its priority is maintaining order and public safety.
To secure the events, the Philippine National Police will deploy over 13,000 officers, with support from the Philippine Coast Guard and standby assistance from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Catholic schools under the Diocese of Legazpi will suspend classes for a “March of Heroes,” while health workers and civil society groups join activities calling for accountability, transparency, and the defense of democracy.
