Two new impeachment complaints were filed with the House of Representatives against Vice President Sara Duterte, a day after the Supreme Court ruling effectively reset the one-year bar on such cases.
The first was lodged by the Makabayan bloc, while the second was filed by civil society group Tindig Pilipinas, citing corruption allegations from Duterte’s alleged former bagman, Ramil Madriaga.
The Tindig Pilipinas complaint claims Duterte’s 2022 campaign was allegedly funded by Chinese-operated POGOs and drug syndicates, allegations Duterte has denied.
Lawmakers from Akbayan, ML, and Makabayan endorsed the new suits, stressing that accountability applies regardless of political position or dynasty.
Duterte’s legal team said they are ready to face the accusations through due process, while Malacañang said it had no role in the filing and left the matter to Congress.
