TURBOPROP FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS AT NAIA TO BE EVALUATED

The Philippine government will review its plan to remove turboprop flights from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) due to concerns about potential disruptions to provinces’ connectivity with Metro Manila.

The Manila Slot Coordination Committee, which includes the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), will reassess the policy, originally set to take effect on March 30.

MIAA general manager Eric Jose Ines stated that Transport Secretary Vince Dizon and new aviation Undersecretary Jim Sydiongco will be involved in the review process.

The policy, aimed at improving airport efficiency by prioritizing larger aircraft, has faced opposition from groups like Ateneo de Naga University, which argues that it would isolate the Bicol region, especially Naga, from air travel to Metro Manila.

The policy would require major domestic airlines to shift 30% of their turboprop flights to Clark by March 30 and all of them by October.Source: PhilNews24 | March 11, 2025
