Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco has warned the public about the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in scams, including the creation of fake transaction slips and AI-generated personas for romance and investment fraud.
As chair of the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology, Tiangco cited increasing cases where scammers exploit advanced technology to deceive victims.
He urged the public to double-check digital transactions and be cautious of offers that seem too good to be true.
Tiangco emphasized that AI can now convincingly replicate human faces and voices, even of celebrities, making scams harder to detect.
He also reminded that offenders could face 12 to 20 years in prison under the Cybercrime Prevention Act and the Anti-Financial Scamming Act.
