The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Gin Kings defeated the Terrafirma Dyip, 110-99, on Sunday night to extend their win streak to four games. The victory was even more special as it marked the return of veteran guard LA Tenorio, who had been sidelined for 287 days due to cancer.
Tenorio played for nearly 26 minutes and finished with six points, three assists, a steal, and a rebound. He also had a plus-six efficiency rating.
“It’s been an incredible journey for LA. It started with a bunch of tears, and just like LA, he just put his nose to the grindstone and just worked his way back. It all started with tears, now we have so much joy for him,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone.
Tenorio’s return was a major boost for the Gin Kings, who were already playing well without him. Import Justin Brownlee led the team in scoring with 26 points, while Maverick Ahanmisi added 16 points and seven assists.
The Gin Kings improved to 4-1 in the standings, while the Dyip fell to 1-5.
