Team Philippines is aiming for at least 60 gold medals in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, slightly exceeding its 58-gold performance in the 2023 edition, according to Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino. The delegation will parade 200 athletes and officials, with tennis star Alex Eala and volleyball standout Bryan Bagunas serving as flag bearers. Tolentino will skip the opening rites to allow more athletes to participate, as preparations continue under tightened security for the attendance of Thailand’s King Vajiralongkorn. Filipino teams have already begun competition, with men’s baseball winning 21-0 over Malaysia, while other events like cricket are underway. With a record number of athletes and strong performances in early matches, Team Philippines hopes to build momentum for a successful Games campaign.
