The Supreme Court has denied a petition for a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte, citing the petitioners’ failure to establish a clear legal right.
Following a virtual deliberation, the court instead ordered government respondents to submit their comments, ensuring further legal review.
The petition, filed just hours after Duterte’s arrest by the International Criminal Court (ICC), sought to prevent Philippine agencies from assisting in ICC investigations.
Named respondents include top officials from the executive, justice, police, and military sectors.
The case was promptly assigned to a Member-in-Charge, with an urgent motion for injunctive relief also noted by the court.
