Up to 373 police officers were deployed to secure today’s special election in Dasmariñas, Cavite, to fill the congressional seat vacated by ousted lawmaker Kiko Barzaga.
Cavite police director Col. Ariel Red said officers were assigned to polling centers, checkpoints, mobile patrols, and security escorts.
Another 100 personnel from various government agencies and volunteer groups were deployed to assist with traffic and security.
Early voting for senior citizens, pregnant women, persons with disabilities, and their companions started at 5 a.m.
Regular voting for 447,387 registered voters is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
