At least two House lawmakers have criticized former Cavite Rep. Kiko Barzaga over social media posts he made following the death of Batanes Rep. Ciriaco Gato Jr.
Manila Rep. Joel Chua called Barzaga’s remarks disrespectful, while Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. said they could also affect the legacy of Barzaga’s late father, former Rep. Elpidio Barzaga.
Barzaga posted several statements about Gato’s death, including references to the lawmaker’s support for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte and his previous vote to expel Barzaga from the House.
Gato, who died on Sept. 21, had voted in favor of House Resolution No. 989 containing the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte and Barzaga’s expulsion.
Barzaga was expelled from the House in June 2026 after previously receiving two 60-day suspensions over complaints concerning his conduct and social media posts.
