Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Saturday urged the public to be cautious about statements circulating online, emphasizing that “zero accountability” equals “zero credibility.”
He stressed that scrutiny is especially important on social media and that only testimonies given under oath carry weight, citing recent conflicting claims in Philippine politics.
Sotto’s remarks came amid the release of former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co’s video exposés on alleged flood control project corruption, which involved supplemental affidavits from former DPWH Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo.
Senators, including Panfilo Lacson and Sherwin Gatchalian, noted the difficulty of verifying claims without concrete evidence or documentation.
Discussions are ongoing on whether to hold further hearings or leave the matter to the Office of the Ombudsman’s Inter-Agency Committee Investigation (ICI).
