Senate Minority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III has filed Senate Bill No. 190 proposing the creation of a Presidential Drug Enforcement Authority to strengthen the country’s fight against illegal drugs.
The bill aims to amend the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 by unifying enforcement, prosecution, prevention, and rehabilitation efforts under one agency for greater efficiency.
Sotto emphasized that the current law needs updating after 23 years to adopt a more holistic approach to drug prevention and rehabilitation, which have been inadequately addressed by agencies like DepEd and DOH.
He stressed that a coordinated supervision of enforcement activities is crucial for more effective anti-drug policies.
The senator underscored the importance of achieving peace and order to secure a drug-free future for the Philippines.
