Sixth Infantry Division Seizes 36 More Unlicensed Firearms!

In a strong push for peace and security, the Army’s 6th Infantry Division has successfully collected 36 more unlicensed firearms from residents of Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat. This voluntary surrender is part of a larger disarmament initiative aimed at ensuring peaceful elections and supporting the government’s ongoing peace efforts in Mindanao.

The weapons, which include assault rifles, M79 grenade launchers, sniper rifles, shotguns, revolvers, and a .45 caliber pistol, were handed over during a ceremony in Barangay Kapaya on November 4. Major Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, commander of the 6th ID, expressed his gratitude to the locals for their cooperation, which aligns with the division’s Small Arms and Light Weapons Management Program (SALW).

This program, covering Central Mindanao’s key provinces, has already seen over 2,000 firearms surrendered since 2021, including weapons from former insurgent groups like Dawlah Islamiya and the Bangsamoro Freedom Fighters. The 6th ID’s ongoing efforts aim to strengthen local peace and security while supporting the region’s reintegration programs for former combatants.
