The MMDA and NLEX Corporation activated three new adaptive traffic signal lights in Metro Manila on Tuesday, aimed at easing congestion and boosting pedestrian safety.
Installed at key intersections in Caloocan and Manila, the sensor-based lights adjust in real time to traffic volume, unlike traditional timer-based systems.
MMDA Chair Don Artes said the project helps reduce accidents and improve judgment among motorists.
With 90% of MMDA-managed intersections now upgraded to smart systems, officials praised the initiative as a successful public-private partnership.
NLEX and parent firm MPTC funded the project, highlighting their broader commitment to sustainable and intelligent road solutions.
