Senators Francis Pangilinan and Bam Aquino urged government agencies to strengthen preparations for the possible impacts of “Super El Niño,” including drought and threats to food security.
Pangilinan called for a stronger public information campaign and measures to protect agriculture and the country’s food supply.
He also filed Senate Resolution No. 515 to assess the readiness of agencies’ budgets and contingency plans.
Aquino, meanwhile, asked Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian to reconvene the PROTECT Committee to coordinate the government’s response.
The senators stressed the need for concrete measures to protect livelihoods, education, health, businesses, and essential services from the potential effects of the weather phenomenon.
