SENATOR PUSHES TO RESTORE P10B CUT FROM AFP MODERNIZATION FUND

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is set to receive P35 billion for its modernization program in 2025, a reduction from the previously proposed P50 billion.

This adjustment follows the House of Representatives to cut P10 billion from the initial allocation.

Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito has advocated for restoring the P10 billion to ensure the successful implementation of the AFP Modernization Program, emphasizing its alignment with the Revised AFP Modernization Act, which mandates an annual appropriation of at least P75 billion.

The reduction has raised concerns about potential delays in the modernization efforts, especially amid rising security challenges in the region.

The Senate is expected to deliberate on this matter to determine the final budget allocation for the AFP’s modernization initiatives.
