Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros announced plans to refile key pending bills from the 19th Congress, focusing on child protection and women’s rights.
The measures include amendments to the Safe Spaces Act to address new digital threats like deepfakes, the Magna Carta of Children to strengthen rights during emergencies, and the Child Tourist Safety Bill, also known as Sandy’s Law, to improve safety in tourist areas.
Hontiveros emphasized the urgency of these laws amid rising online abuse and incidents involving children.
Despite being in the minority, she expressed determination to push these bills forward in the 20th Congress.
As chair of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality, she plans to collaborate with colleagues to advance these legislative priorities.
