The Senate has approved on third and final reading Senate Bill No. 1629, or the Multi-Faith Prayer and Quiet Rooms Act, which seeks to promote religious inclusivity in public spaces.
Authored by Sen. Mark Villar, the measure mandates the establishment of prayer and quiet rooms in government offices and selected public establishments nationwide.
The bill provides for neutral spaces where individuals of all faiths can pray, meditate, or reflect, including in locations such as airports, hospitals, and ports.
Villar said the measure is especially timely during Ramadan and recognizes the spiritual needs of Muslim Filipinos while also accommodating other religions.
The bill will now be sent for possible bicameral approval before being transmitted to the President for signing into law.
