Senator Robin Padilla has ordered actress Nadia Montenegro to take an immediate leave of absence after she was accused of smoking marijuana inside the Senate premises.
An internal investigation found that security personnel smelled marijuana twice near the fifth-floor ladies’ restroom, where Montenegro was present during the second incident.
Montenegro denied smoking marijuana but admitted to carrying a vape device.
Senate officials, including Senators Juan Miguel Zubiri and Sherwin Gatchalian, condemned the incident, with Zubiri announcing mandatory drug tests for his team and supporting calls for random testing among Senate staff.
The Senate is considering stricter measures, including possible dismissal, for employees found using illegal drugs on the premises.
