SARA DUTERTE CLAIMS LAWMAKERS WERE PAID TO SIGN IMPEACHMENT

Vice President Sara Duterte alleged that several of the 215 congressmen who signed the Articles of Impeachment against her did so without reading the document and were promised funds in return.

She criticized business groups like the Makati Business Club for blaming her impeachment for the country’s economic issues, asserting that investor confidence was already weak.

Duterte also reiterated her call for Senator Risa Hontiveros to abstain from the impeachment trial, citing her past public statements against the Duterte family.

Senate President Francis Escudero clarified that the inhibition of senator-judges must be voluntary and said impeachment trial procedures cannot be resolved through private mediation between the Senate and the House.

Escudero also maintained that the two-thirds vote needed for conviction remains unchanged, regardless of how many senators inhibit themselves.
